Before we begin, if you’ve experienced a fire in your home, no matter the size, we are sorry you’re going through this! We understand the trauma and uncertainty a fire creates, and also understand the importance of reversing the damage and restoring your home as quickly as possible. A highly trained, professional, and caring team like Mammoth Restoration in Westerville is always available to help. Your home will soon feel like home again!
So what’s our process? What happens after the fire?
- You call a professional.
The whole restoration process starts with one phone call – from you or perhaps your insurance company – to get the ball rolling. A fire damage restoration company will respond as quickly as possible after the call. Why? Because the longer you let the soot and smoke sit, the more damage it will do! The same goes for the water you or the fire department used to douse the flames.
- Determine the depth of the damage.
There are several people involved in this process, and every job might look a little different. A crew leader, project manager, or estimator will take a walk through your home, see the damage, and create a plan of action. This person will likely also be able to work with your insurance adjuster or insurance company during the loss.
- The pack-out.
That is jargon for packing up any contents in your home that may have been damaged – from clothing and bedding to dishes, electronics, etc., that are salvageable. Don’t worry, our crews will handle this – labeling it and boxing it up by room and type of item, and taking careful inventory. Believe it or not, many of the items in your home could be saved through special cleaning and restoration techniques in an experienced contents restoration division. People often throw out salvageable contents that can be restored. Talk to the pros before you toss anything for good.
- Structure restoration.
This could include removing carpet or other porous materials, scrubbing down walls with special solutions that will remove the soot and the odor, and wiping every single surface over and over until it’s clean. It could also mean doing things like removing cabinets from the wall to clean behind them, or removing charred beams saturated with smoke and soot. This portion of the process also includes tackling smoke odors, which can be tricky! If not properly removed, the smoke smell can reappear during a change in the weather, the presence of moisture, or other environmental changes. That’s why it’s important to have an experienced team making sure not only that your home is clean and the visible damage removed, but also that the smell is removed as well.
- Get back to “normal” life!
Once the restoration and cleaning process is done, you can have your contents carefully returned to your home! This means you’ll be back on track to restoring normalcy in your home, hopefully, sooner than you thought!
